This presentation will cover the typical Physical and Neurobiological progression of brain development during adolescence, and the corresponding cognitive, emotional and muscular change during these times; the common Adolescent Mental Health Syndromes and their typical impacts and the cognitive, emotional, and social changes usually seen in adolescents; how Substance Use and Substance Abuse impacts adolescents' cognitive, emotional, and social behaviors; the combined impact of co-occurring mental health issues and substance abuse and what it means developmentally for the adolescent, for their family, friends, and their way of being in the world; and strategies to help create more effective interactions with adolescents across all settings.
